Stages of Sewing Machine Development

Before the creation of the sewing machines, clothes were been stitched by hand. Hand stitching is a skill that was been practiced about 2,000 years ago.

It is been supposed that Thomas Saint in 1790 attempts to make a sewing machine. In 1800, first ever-sewing machine was been invented and in the mid of nineteenth century, it become popular between the people. Several attempts were been made after 1790 to invent a sewing machine. However, every attempt failed.

In 1830, a tailor from France invented the first useful sewing machine that uses only a hooked pin and one thread for stitching. After that, Walter created a sewing machine with double thread in 1834 and this was been considered as the first functional sewing machine of America. The machine invented by Walter was a sewing machine with straight-seam that uses counter eye-pointed pin and a swinging shuttle.

After Walter, Elias Howe created a machine that had the similar features as of the previous machine. After him, Singer invented the first computerized sewing machine. His machine includes a direct eye-pointed pin and slanting shuttle, a table for supporting the fabric horizontally, an erect presser base for holding the fabric against the rising stroke of pin.
